10 Days Ramazan KetoDiet Challenge!




One third of Ramazan is already gone and I like most of us, I still haven't lost a pound! since Ketogenic Diet is all the rage these days and I have seen many people losing weight by sticking to it so here I am, giving it a try for the next 10 days! (keeping my fingers crossed that  get no iftar invitations)
So here is a brief and simple summary of how the diet works for you guys: carbohydrates are the major source of energy for our bodies. In the absence of Carbs, when we are consuming a high fat and protein diet (as is done in keto) our body switches from carbs to fats to provide the fuel that is needed to run it. In that process it consumes the stored fats and makes Ketone bodies out of them and hence we lose weight (and fat)!
The questions that most people will have in their mind is
1.What to Eat?
2. What not to eat?
3. How long will it take?
4. Is there any side effects?

Answers, to the best of my knowledge, are:

1. What to Eat?
A) You can consume good fats, meaning
Olive Oil
Butter
Coconut oil
Cream
Organic oils (desi ghee)
Nuts

B) Green vegetables, like
Broccoli
Spinach
Capsicum
Cauliflower
etc

C)Berries
No other fruits...sorry!

D) Proteins, like
Eggs
Seafood
Mutton
Beef
Chicken
any other if you like

E) Misc
Mushrooms
Olives
Cheese (full fat)

2. What Not To Eat?
Well, No Carbs. No fruits other than berries. And NO starchy vegetables. No SUGAR!
You can take natural sweeteners like Stevia plant extracts which are easily available in market.

3. How Long Will It Take?
Normally a person can only store Glycogen sufficient for about 2 days. So after 2 days of a strictly carbohydrate deficient diet the body starts to go into ketosis. But it can take 2 to 7 days to get in full swing. As soon as the process starts, you start losing weight!

4. Is There Any Side Effects?
In the beginning, lack of energy, fatigue, foggy brain, craving for sugars occur, but it settles within a few days. People who have compromised kidney functions should try avoiding this type of diet before consulting their doctors.

So, that was a very simple summary of Keto Diet and how it works. I plan to try it for 10 days of Ramazan and then see how it goes. If you are in it with me keep following this Blog!
